Thanks, that's the first laugh I've had since our recent sad news.

Didn't know if this should go here or in politics, but it is a random thought ... it just happens to be related to the current political picture.

How come is it that John Dean's scream in 2004 was enough to obliterate his chances of nomination and election to the presidency, and pictures of front-runner Gary Hart's tête-à-tête with Donna Rice on board the yacht Monkey Business was enough to scuttle his presidential aspirations in 1988 — and even further back than that, the revelation that Thomas Eagleton had gotten electro-shock therapy was reason enough for George McGovern, even after promising to stand behind him 'one thousand percent', to still drop him as his running mate in 1972 and eventually replace him with Sargent Shriver...

....... but Trump's felony convictions, frequent lies, misstatements, racist remarks, made-up words, and even Freudian slips about 'being a dictator on Day 1' and telling people that 'If you vote for me this time, I'll fix it so well you'll never have to vote again' doesn't have people on both sides of the aisle calling for him to be thrown so far out of the Presidential race that the only way he'd ever see 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue again would be on Google Earth?

Yes, I suppose I could agree with you ... but then we'd both be wrong, wouldn't we?

Am I alone in thinking that Anthony Kiedis looks like the uncle you don’t leave your kid alone with these days?

Given his history, you aren’t alone.

And perhaps rain is what happens when clouds look down on us, see the mess we're in, and weep.   Maybe little kids are closer to right than we know when they say 'rain is just the angels crying'.

If I’m important to my local politicians, how come the mail I get from them always says “or current resident”?

Isn’t that kinda like saying to your wife, “I love you or your replacement”?

American English is weird. I read/hear discussions about the coming elections and an important voting block is called 'Latino' But it has nothing to do with the people who come from the home of Latin, the Italians. Similarly, the word anti-semitic' is thrown around a lot. Semitic refers to a Afroasiatic language branch that includes Aramaic (sometimes called the language of Jesus), Hebrew (the language of the Jews) and also Arabic, the language of the Palestinians, among many many, and many other languages such as the Ethiopians and the Maltese. Why does nobody just say 'anti-Jew'?

I guess for the same reason that North Americans are called Americans or Canadians, but never includes people from Mexico.

Sometimes I think the central purpose of the American language is to confuse communication.

Why do American realtors refer to themselves as "realators"? It's not just them of course; it's a common error. But shouldn't realtors know better? (And I believe in their minds they think it's spelled Relators.

How would we react if MDs referred to themselves as "Medacal Docators"? Or pilots as pialots?

Worse - a President calling him or herself "Trump"

In order to survive the inconsistencies that life sometimes heaps upon us, we must learn to accept the vicissitudes of life.

(occasionally I think of myself as a realalist)

Yesterday I saw a kid lying facedown on the roadway at the insane intersection by my house which I have lamented in prior posts. I had just taken my teenaged niece for a little ride in my new used car which I got registered yesterday, and on our return the intersection had a cop car in the middle with a cop directing traffic and we had to turn instead of going straight which was the way we meant to go to get home, because the kid was in the roadway waiting for fire/EMS to arrive. There was a car also and a young man standing by the car with his head in his hands - clearly he was the driver who failed to yield (or probably even to look and see) the kid in the crosswalk and turned into and hit him, I'm guessing. From the spot where the kid was laying it seemed likely he was propelled up and over the vehicle and then a hard landing on asphalt. He wasn't moving at all. We cut through a parking lot and approached our street from the other direction but sat a long time getting back into the roadway because the traffic was bogged down - saw the firetruck and ambulance arrive and load the kid and head for the hospital.

I haven't been able to find anything in the news and honestly didn't sleep well last night and am still very upset today. I know this happens all the time - I'm actually shocked by the number of kids hit by cars in the last year in my city that came up in the news as I searched to find out about this one - but I really need to know if *that* kid is going to be okay.

I also can't stop worrying about the young man who hit him because he was clearly distraught in the aftermath. And I can't stop thinking about the cop who had to stand there - and he even had to shout at some drivers which weren't following his direction or seeming to care about the kid lying in the fucking roadway, they just wanted to go the way they wanted to go! - imagine standing there with a possibly dying kid just feet away from you and directing vehicles and dealing with selfish assholes. I know this is the job they signed up for, but my empathy is expanded for the cops who fray and break under the pressure of it.

I know this is not a cheerful random thought but I needed to express it somewhere.

Please pray for that kid and his family - both of them, really.
