"WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump fired over a dozen inspectors general across federal agencies late Friday night, one of the fired officials confirmed to USA TODAY.

As many as 17 were let go without notice by email, despite federal law requiring 30 days notice to Congress to remove an inspector general. The inspectors general are independent watchdogs within agencies who investigate and disclose waste, fraud and abuse.

Those fired Friday include inspectors at the Pentagon and departments of State, Veterans Affairs and Interior, which oversees marine oil and gas leases as well as Indian Affairs, said the fired official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation."

I guess this is what Trump understands to 'faithfully execute the laws.' At least he did not execute them by firing squad. And PS the Department of the Interior is decades late on the audit of oil royalties owed Indian Nations as directed by the Supreme Court.

I'm Facebook friends with a number of native Americans who I befriended in my years working in legal aid out in Montana.

Yesterday I saw a post in my feed, an exchange between native Americans in California and Montana who are urging their peers to carry full paperwork on them at all times now in order to avoid being caught up in ICE raids and deportation sweeps due to mistaken identity.

Imagine people whose ancestry in this land goes back thousands of years being made to fear expulsion and to carry birth certificate, SS card and tribal enrollment paperwork on their persons at all times - as if the hundreds of years of genocide have not been enough. The German in me is recoiling in horror. I know it's not been demanded of them by the administration yet, but they have been sweeping up American citizens in their raids already so it's not irrational for brown people to be terrified.
