Re: This is Funny....
I used to like Bill Maher. But he got so far up himself in the last few years.
In this clip he says that 'even the NYT says that Covid started in a lab.' NYT has done no such thing. They published a piece from an author who thought that. It is by no means uncommon for the Times to publish a contrary view; and I read that piece and concluded that it was long on assertion and short on evidence.
I hold the same opinion that most people who have looked at the evidence have: we simply don't know. There is good evidence on both sides and people who think 'lab or zoonotic?' some are 60:40 and some 40:60. I guess we'll find out one day but until then the focus should be on fighting it with vaccines, avoidance techniques and treatment therapies. Whether it originated in a lab or a wet market is largely irrelevant to that fight.
So: fake news from Bill Maher.

Bill Mahers head started expanding after 9/11 and hasn’t stopped since. All that’s left of him is a rich twat who gets high on his own farts and believes himself clever.
Okay... There's all kinds of things wrong with what you just said.
Re: This is Funny....
I agree with you and that's part of what made the interview so enjoyable. Martin Short had Maher so off balance that he couldn't get any type of serious plug in for his book.ex-khobar Andy wrote: ↑Tue Jun 25, 2024 5:18 pmI used to like Bill Maher. But he got so far up himself in the last few years.
Having said that, although I don't particularly like Bill Maher, I do like his show because he has interesting guests. Sometimes he can be funny but his opening monologues are often predictable and humorless. He could use some better writers.
Re: This is Funny....
I still think Bill Maher is funny shit and mostly on point - he fails to grasp all the nuance on some issues but nobody is without failing. He has a very good handle on how the extreme left is damaging the progressive movement as a whole even if some of his more progressive guests don't want to hear it. He definitely has the rightwing Xtian nationalists pegged, and he's got Drumpf's number like no other comedian. Just once I'd love to see that orange puke go head to head with Maher.
I really, really like Bill Maher and always have. I have no interest in dating him, but I'd love to be his friend and housekeeper/caregiver - I'd love to smoke a bowl with him and while away the hours of an afternoon or two. Then I'd go back to bitching about what a cantankerous old bastard he is and impossible to please because I'm pretty sure that's how he is.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.
